Membrana Mortis (Dead Film)

Super 8 | B+W | Sound | 2016

23 Metres

Membrana Mortis is a meta-film, a chaotic assemblage of re-photographed and chemically manipulated image fragments culled from a damaged roll of film that was nearly un-projectable.

Heads or Tails

Heads or Tails

Super 8 | B+W | Silent | 2016

7 Metres

Heads or Tails is composed of the heads and tails clipped from black and white Super 8 films Kyle has hand-processed over the years. The clips were arranged by flipping a quarter 8 times and then splicing in either a head or a tail selected at random, as determined by the coin toss.

Vapor

Vapor

Super 8 | Toned B+W | Silent | 2016

28 Metres

Vapor is an insubstantial film - diffused matter suspended in air - a cinematic dew point where time and space are distorted and compressed. Pinhole images coalesce into something recognizable and just as quickly fade into the mist of emulsion from which they came.

Semper Porro (Ever Forward)

Semper Porro (Ever Forward)

16mm | Toned B+W | Sound | 2012

132 Metres

Semper Porro is a rhythmic composition of abstracted images derived from nature and droning-generative sound derived from the film-material itself. Shot on location in Wellington North County, Ontario, at the Film Farm - the film's title is also the motto for the county, a Latin term meaning always forward or ever forward.

Four Vignettes

Four Vignettes

Super 8 | B+W | Sound | 2009

18 Metres

Four everyday scenes presented as sequential images and sound. A home made optical Theremin transmutes the visual to the audible twenty-four times per second. This film was a prototype for Circles of Confusion.

Maverick

Maverick

16mm | B+W and Colour | Sound | 2009

77 Metres

Part manifesto, part autobiography - Maverick is an affirmation of the power of film flicker. Experimenting with chemical and physical manipulation to achieve unique, and often unpredictable images; the films visual dialogue implies that these are not “special effects” but rather the mediums main mode of expression.
